The wandering spirit will make a tree appear which you can use your Hookshot on to get to Ikana Canyon. Now, return to the valley, go to the large cliff and put on the Garo's Mask. The race itself is rather straightforward and shouldn't be hard. Talk to the Gorman Bros' on horseback and they will challenge you to a race for 10 rupees. Get back to Milk Road, and follow the road that branches off to the left. Read his tombstone to learn the Song of Storms:Īt this point, you still cannot get to Ikana Canyon. Once the Iron Knuckle is gone, Flat, one of the Composer Brothers, will appear. If all this is too difficult, bombs work against this guy as well. A few more slashes will get rid of him for once and for all. In this stage you might find it the easiest to simply stab him repeatedly. His axe hurts a lot, so avoid it at all costs! Evade his attack, slash at it (as human Link,) get away, rinse and repeat. In the next room you'll have to battle an Iron Knuckle. To open the door, light up the three torches with Fire Arrows. Dispose of them any way you like and a chest will appear (it contains 50 Rupees). Once there, follow the straightforward path and you'll come across a room full of bats. Put on your Captain's Hat and you'll be able to speak to them, command them to open the grave and then jump in. You'll see a group of Stalchildren walk around a grave. Use your Hookshot to get to the chest and open it to claim the Captain's Hat. Once he is defeated, the flames around the treasure chest at the top will disappear. Slash him any way you like and he should be defeated soon. He will either try to attack you directly, or attempt to jump onto you. Once you slash him once, the real battle starts. You can shoot Fire Arrows at Skull Keeta to stun him shortly. On the way, flame walls will stop your progress, and you'll need to kill the Stalchildren to progress. Skull Keeta runs away, and your job is to follow him. Play the Sonata of Awakening to enter a battle. Go right to the very back and you'll notice a large skull. These themes are not contingent on something being solely geared towards a specific genre, but are scary because they tap into something familiar. The Ikana Graveyard is where the souls of the kingdom of Ikana rest. The fact of the matter is that any game has the potential to be jarring, horrifying, or spine-chilling. That, therefore, is where the many eerie and unsettling events of Majora's Mask derives its power even the implied themes of death in Pokemon may leave even the most hardened trainer weepy-eyed and snotty. Children's games, for example, are presented to the world as either happy or not as serious as their more mature counterparts. Horror is not purely psychological or visual, but its power lies within the estrangement of familiarity. Not all horror are equal, and games such as The Legend of Zelda: Majoras mask, Psychonauts, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Minecraft, and Pokemon Red and Blue are evidence of that. If the player opens a chest nearby, the game will display messages like "It Burns!" or "Why didn't you save us, Milla?", implying the birth of her psychic powers was concurrent with the dying thoughts of the burning orphans. But, one night after returning from the grocery store, Milla had came back to a burning orphanage was unable to save the rest children. Milla had run an orphanage and loved the children she cared for. The player, having ignored Milla's pleas, is subject to a heart-breaking and terrible secret. During the mission "Milla's Children", the player can veer off course to a secret room which contains a literal mental vault. Perhaps the most heartbreaking and spine-chilling moment comes from Psychonauts. Even for a children's game, this material is still a lot to take in and is written in such a way that only people who would be able to parse the clues left behind by Game Freak would be able to understand the tragic implications of pitting Pokemon against each other. The infamous Lavender town, home to the games largest and only Pokemon cemetery, is where trainers are shown their rival standing over the grave of the previously mentioned Raticate, mourning the loss of their dearly departed partner. The most unsettling aspect of Red and Blue is the fact that the player, albeit it implied, kills their rival's Raticate. For example, it is said a boy had suddenly transformed into a Kadabra overnight (implying that spontaneous psychic metamorphoses are responsible for a good deal of the Pokemon population), a Pokemon exists solely to consume dreams nightly (preferring the dreams of children), or even a ghost that will literally poison its victims by licking them. Pokemon Red and Blue may be fun, happy, and enjoyable, but the generation 1 games left trainers scratching their heads at things such as a handful of Pokedex entries leaving players scratching their heads collectively.
